VOLUNTEERING

STUDENTS

EDUCATORS

GET INVOLVED

One of the biggest ways you can make a difference as a member of the East Garner Elementary PTA is volunteering your time.  There are a variety of ways to volunteer.

Events - The most obvious is helping out with the various events and projects the PTA undertakes.  There are so many roles and functions that are needed to host events as smoothly as possible.

Join a committee - The PTA has numerous committees that are needed to function properly during the year.  Want to help raise the member total, you can join the Membership Committee.  Want to ensure the money is properly managed, join the Audit Committee.  Want to help organize an event, join a Special Committee devoted to that event.

Head up a department - There are four elected positions, but that does not mean you cannot hold an important position.  Five VP roles are accepted on a volunteer basis.  They are VP Communications, VP Cultural Arts, VP Fundraising, VP Hospitality and VP Membership.  Each one has specific areas of responsibility.  Just contact the President to see if there are any openings.

Did you know that there are many ways to affect the daily life of the students at East Garner Elementary?  You do not have to be a PTA member, but it does help.

Classroom - Our teachers are amazing educators, but more importantly, people.  Even so, they can always use our help.  Whether it is cutting papers, filing papers, cleaning the classroom, etc., they welcome the assistance.

Reading - Especially in the lower grades, reading time is critical during the school day.  You can step in and offer to read to the class and interact.  Sometimes, having someone else read to them sparks an emotion or ignites a fire in a child.

Pride - Young kids get excited whenever their family or relatives join in on their activities.  From Field Day, a classroom project or even lunch, kids get elated when someone they know walks through the door.

The "T" in PTA stands for Teachers.  We are not telling you anything new, but this group is oftentimes underserved within the PTA.  But that is easy to change.

Strive for 100% - All staff members are invited to join the PTA.  The more that participate, the better equipped we are to serve the needs of the school.

Active/Passive -Seemingly, most staff members that join take a passive role in that they atend an occasional meeting, if at all.  You are not restricted to simply filling a seat.  In most cases, you are welcome to fill PTA staff positions or serve on a committee.  In fact, it is recommended that staff members serve in some roles so that all sides are represented.  Exceptions are President, VP, Treasurer and Audit Committee.

Set The Standard - Parents, relatives and community members are more apt to join and particpate if they see the people at the school actively supporting the PTA.  A bigger and stronger PTA is more likely to provide the support the school needs.
